Equipped with the right applications, a computer can be of great help in virtually any domain of activity. When it comes to designing and precision, no other tool is as accurate as a computer. Moreover, specialized applications such as AutoCAD give you the possibility to design nearly anything ranging from art, to complex mechanical parts or even buildings.
Suitable for business environments and experienced users
After a decent amount of time spent installing the application on your system, you are ready to fire it up. Thanks to the office suite like interface, all of its features are cleverly organized in categories. At a first look, it looks easy enough to use, but the abundance of features it comes equipped with leaves room for second thoughts.
Create 2D and 3D objects
You can make use of basic geometrical shapes to define your objects, as well as draw custom ones. Needless to say that you can take advantage of a multitude of tools that aim to enhance precision. A grid can be enabled so that you can easily snap elements, as well as adding anchor points to fully customize shapes.
With a little imagination and patience on your behalf, nearly anything can be achieved. Available tools allow you to create 3D objects from scratch and have them fully enhanced with high-quality textures. A powerful navigation pane is put at your disposal so that you can carefully position the camera to get a clearer view of the area of interest.
Various export possibilities
Similar to a modern web browser, each project is displayed in its own tab. This comes in handy, especially for comparison views. Moreover, layouts and layers also play important roles, as it makes objects handling a little easier.
Sine the application is not the easiest to carry around, requiring a slightly sophisticated machine to properly run, there are several export options put at your disposal so that the projects itself can be moved around.
Aside from the application specific format, you can save as an image file of multiple types, PDF, FBX and a few more. Additionally, it can be sent via email, directly printed out on a sheet of paper, or even sent to a 3D printing service, if available.
To end with
All in all, AutoCAD remains one of the top applications used by professionals to achieve great precision with projects of nearly any type. It encourages usage with incredible offers for student licenses so you get acquainted with its abundance of features early on. A lot can be said about what it can and can't do, but the true surprise lies in discovering it step-by-step.

Released in 1982, AutoCAD is the second commercially-available CAD application. The first was a program developed in 1972 called AutoCad, which, like AutoCAD, was designed by Jack Dangermond and Gary Porter. Jack Dangermond’s background is in engineering, and he designed AutoCad to provide drafting software for microcomputers in the course of his engineering work. Autodesk began to market the software in 1981 and formally introduced AutoCAD in 1982.

AutoCAD’s growth was rapid. «In the beginning of AutoCAD’s life, it was a tool with a niche market,» said Bill Payne, AutoCAD’s vice president of product management. «There were a few applications that could use CAD in a fairly general way, but the nature of AutoCAD was very specialized.» According to a 2007 article by Peter Satterly, by 1988 AutoCAD had a market share of 50 percent and accounted for 70 percent of all of the drafting work in the United States. By 1994, an estimated 90 percent of engineering drawings in the United States were created using AutoCAD.

AutoCAD’s success was primarily due to the fact that it was designed specifically for microcomputers, which meant the application could be installed and run on a desktop PC in seconds, as opposed to hours on a mainframe or minicomputer. According to a 2008 article by David L. Baldwin in Data Sheet, Microcomputers: A Personal Computer Guide, by 1986 «[a]fter AutoCAD was released and became popular, the new microcomputer market began to grow. It was apparent that the CAD market was growing at the same pace, as was the market for a new form of microcomputer; small computing devices. As personal computers began to outnumber mainframe systems in use, companies began to develop their own CAD and graphics programs to run on their desktops.»

AutoCAD History

The history of AutoCAD begins in 1972, when Jack Dangermond, then a researcher at the computer firm Compatible Computing, developed a basic CAD application he called AutoCAD. Originally, it ran on the PDP-11 minicomputer, but by the early 1980s, the tool had been ported to the Motorola 68000 microprocessor.

Jack Dangermond left Compatible Computing in 1978 to co-found Computech, a company which produced a number of software applications, including a version of AutoCAD

Application Programming Interface: The core of AutoCAD is written in C++ with an object-oriented design. A software developer can use C++ to program various functions and add new features to AutoCAD.

It is the same principle used for making other Autodesk products.

AutoCAD is used for drafting, modeling, and creation of documentation. AutoCAD can be used for making architecture, engineering, construction and 3D visualizations. Analyses are made with the modeling tools and are done in the data management programs, for example, structural. A drawing can be displayed in different ways and with 3D models that can be colored, shaded, and rotated. The DGN file format is used to store the model information. The drawing objects can also be exported as native DGN files, or saved as a DXF or DWG file format.

In addition to creating and editing 2D drawings, AutoCAD is used for creating 2D and 3D models for designing parts and assemblies. It can be used for creating architectural plans, such as topographical models and city models, construction blueprints, for creating maps, for integrating with GIS systems, and for creating a presentation of a project’s design.

Dassault Systèmes provides a version of AutoCAD called Autodesk AutoCAD Architecture, which is a full-featured computer-aided design (CAD) application for architectural design. It was first released in 1988 and was the first such CAD application that was available on personal computers.

Partner programs and interoperability

AutoCAD supports the Microsoft Windows, Apple macOS, and Linux platforms. Interoperability between AutoCAD and other software is facilitated by the use of the DXF file format (data exchange format) for storing drawing objects. It is supported by most applications that use AutoCAD.

AutoCAD is the third CAD application to support Autodesk Exchange (AutoEx), which is a web-based collaboration tool. AutoEx is a web-based collaboration tool designed to allow users to share information, integrate their content, and interact with others. AutoCAD is the only AutoEx-capable CAD application, although several CAD applications support AutoEx to some extent. AutoEx applications are available on the Autodesk Exchange Apps website.

Why does git merge fail if I don’t pull from remote repo?

I have a machine with git on it.
I don’t pull from origin or anything, I just commit, push, and pull from other boxes (which actually are my own boxes).
When I do a git pull on my machine, I get:
Aborting: remote ‘origin’ has merged branch’master’ into refs/remotes/origin/master
I’m not pulling from the remote, so I’m a bit confused.
How should I proceed to resolve this?

The warning is not about not pulling anything, but about your remote-tracking branches not having a master branch.
git checkout master
git branch -d master
git checkout -b master origin/master
git push -f
