For example, it is known that acid-treated and calcined phosphorus powder catalyzes the reaction of NaOH with K.sub.2 S.sub.2 O.sub.5, to form K.sub.2 P.sub.3 O.sub.10. The resulting potassium tetrasulfide and triphosphorus pentasulfide are useful in lubricant compositions such as greases and extreme pressure engine oils.
It is known that tributoxyphosphine sulfide and triphenoxyphosphine sulfide react with metal borides to form hydride and oxy-phosphide complexes. Thus, when tributoxyphosphine sulfide is heated with K.sub.3 P in the presence of CuB.sub.2, the following products are formed:
Cu.sub.2 B.sub.3 P.sub.5 ; PA1 K.sub.3 P.sub.3 S.sub.4 ; and PA1 (tributoxyphosphine sulfide).sub.3 B.sub.3 P.sub.5. PA1 1. Thermal decomposition of [P(HS.sub.2)Ph].sup.1-2 (P(HS.sub.2)Ph is 1,3,4,6,7,10-hexakis(diphenylphosphino)decane) yields 1,4-bis(diphenylphosphino)anthrene. ##STR1## PA1 2.
